| My first bird friend was a red cardinal. Lal Pakhi is his name. It means "Red Bird" in Bengali. Lal Pakhi was very hard to photograph at first. He hid from me and even let his mate get the food while he would stay back. Until one day when he got up the nerve and came to the feeder. |

Now we are old friends

| Pakhi had a special surprise to show me on this day. He brought a little boy with him. The little guy had a seed in his mouth and was trying to break it. |

| Lal Pakhi came running up with a seed that he had already cracked for his little guy. I can't even tell you how this melted my heart. |
